Selected movies - Bollywood 2013

1. Special 26
‘Special 26’ is also a film which can be watched with the family , Director has avoided vulgarity in this heist.
I would steal one star for the song and love angle put in and the lights (they were too theatrical) ........
Just like A Wednesday, Special 26 doesn't have any camera excellence but the strong execution of a strong backed story makes it believable , not to miss the excellent historical reference of 1987........
and watch it for Anupam Kher's body language and Manoj bajpayee's intense screen presence.
Kudos Neeraj padey , You did it once again !!!Great Con movies like Matchstick Men, Snatch or Catch Me If You Can --
Here comes Desi Baap..
Special 26 !

Impressed !
2. Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns
"Saheb Biwi aur Gangster returns" is a sequel in the truest sense.
SBGR is heavy on metaphor with irresistible humor and dialogues. It has tribute from old movie "Woh Kaun Thi" a film about women conspiracy. A movie which opens and ends with sound of guns being cocked? High on power and poetry.. and of course A sensitive tomato.
"Saheb Biwi aur Gangster returns" - What an awesome characterization.. sticking to the original carry forward story .... Climax was unprecedented almost at par with the original and with a touch of Gulaal (read songs and period). Paravesh Rana was a debutante's surprise , it shows what a reputed director can do...
Well Done Tigamanshu Dhulia Saheb !!!

Now seriously waiting for the next franchise -re-returns !!!!!!!

3. Aashiqui 2
Aashiqui 2 is lovable movie with nice efforts from both the lead newcomers. The music is the biggest stealer and you wont be surprised to like this movie even there is nothing special about this one. It is in the package and an old name.

4. Bombay Talkies
Bombay Talkies is tribute to 100 years of Indian cinema where different genre directors coming together to give us the dark
and thought provoking movie.
Karan Johar,Dibankar, Zoya and Anurag Kashyap is good enough to talk about current social stigmas brilliantly separated by four short stories.
Watch it if you love bollywood and its evolving genres.

5. Lootera
Lootera is a movie not to be missed if you consider movie as an art. The direction is flawless with amazing sketches of classic era . Its indeed a blessing for real and relatable characters whose love is undefined. Vikramaditya Motwane might not be good in low light shoots but the movie works well in daylight and he has nailed it.
Screenplay gives way to wordless knock of perfection. While both Sinha and singh will keep this movie as feather on their acting hat. I should also mention Barun Chanda for the rustic and proud yet fragile portrayal.
The art and photography is finest among recent releases. Background scores and poetry takes a backseat when compared with Udaan. Characterization of Divya Dutta was one missing link in this beautiful movie. The masterpiece "Last Leaf" was indeed one good long masterpiece.
3.5/5

6. Ship of Theseus
Hats off to Anand Gandhi for "Ship Of Theseus ".. What an amazing, thoughtful and completely researched screenplay. Amazing character sketches you can ever imagine and what an art.
Speechless.A near-masterpiece.
A rare spiritual journey in movies (Bolly+Holly).
Its a feat. Theseus's paradox (“If parts of an object are replaced with similar parts, does it remain the same?”) brewed with so much of honesty and creativity in English, Arabic, Hindi, Prakrit and Swedish for its international appeal. The story and screenplay is philosophically woven around dichotomy and duality of human compassion and existence. A reference to the ancient Indian atheist Cārvāka (चार्वाक दर्शन fame) for the argument is splendid. you need a keen ear,not to miss the sublime skeptical turbulence in words. Dont chomp your popcorns aloud.

Above all :- This movie was shot on a Canon EOS-1D Mark IV, provides such a clarity and focus that even handheld shots are too content with the theme. The movie has some mesmerizing cinematography esp Bombay and Himachal scenes.
A must from India to Oscars.....

4.5/5

7. Madras Cafe
"Madras cafe" is a damn good and well researched movie. Highly engrossing, emotional and content.
I couldn't find a single moment of slackness.
John Abraham proves that an educated producer can be menacing. and not to forget Shoojit Sircar- You are becoming a master of all genre.
Hats off to narration and scripting and jingoistic screenplay (Somnath Dey and Shubendu Bhattacharya with Juhi Chaturvedi):- where Fiction meets literature meets Reality. I must also accept amazing photography by Negi, its perfectly shot.

Siddharth Basu and Prakash Belawadi have done a great justice to the roles. This is one film Bollywood hasn't touched before. Tense, political and refreshing.

This is one of the best War/Spy Thriller movie ever came out from Bollywood.
Rating:- 5/5

8. The Lunchbox
Lunchbox is a philosophy in screenplay, amazing street candid photography with varied details and here NFDC is back with bang to art-house lovers.
Cinemas at its best co produced by Anurag Kashyap, NFDC ,UTV and German/France/US studios. I can bet Karan Johar can only produce movies of this greatness after fully seeing it.

Irrfan is good with his character' of middle aged man, his expressions and controlled and holds a magnitude of wisdom. While Nimrat kaur is a surprise gem for Indian screen, She has mastered the art of slipping into the skin of a house wife who loves cooking.
and then we have our own indi Pacino - Nawazuddin. All three are brilliant in this movie.
and not to forget Bharati Achrekar Voice.
Food and serendipity, is well written by Ritesh Batra. Although Director fumbles during the various pen sequences, otherwise he has a water tight script.Every detail in this film proves the great craft.
Its a simple love story at the surface, but the moment you scratch beneath, you will find a thoughtful Mumbai city.
4.75/5

9.Shahid
"Shahid" is an honest film.
Subtle, Thought -Provoking .
A special mention for Raj Kumar Yadav , for such an brilliant act portraying toughness and fragile at the same time. The other performance of Tigmanshu Dhulia in a brief cameo will remind you of legendary Ramadhir Singh.
One of the best Bollywood movie depicting real court room trials.
Thank you Hansal Mehta for bringing an unknown incidence into the limelight.

Suckers 12 - Worst Movies of 2012

12.Jab Tak Hai Jaan - Its not hard to believe why a ShahRukh Khan movie is there in this list , leave alone the last movie of Yash Chopra. The story is such a sucker that you might want to put your head inside a live Bomb container. The leading ladies esp Kaif is such a plastic face that someone might want to go environment friendly. "Save Earth , Dont use Plastics"
SRK with beards Goshhhhh so ugly and untidy.
Even Gulzar and AR Rahman's deadly combo failed this time to save the movie. Badly written screenplays and badly directed movie, it barely beats Barfi! and Houseful2 to enter this list.

11.Bol Bachchan- Even you use the superstar's surname, and copy the Original Golmal, it will not save you from doomsday, even you use both the bachchans . Rohit shetty has an art of making Rs100Crores, he made that too.
But he doesnot have an art of film making. Ajay Devgn 's four movies in the list along with Abhishek's two movies, you will now not think twice about its credibility. The gay Bachchan topped with Krushna (such a piss) was such a sham on all the Bollywood fraternity.
EK DUM घटिया DIALOGUES FROM BOL BACHCHAN बोल बच्चन

Tujhe paakar meri chaati aur bhi chaudi ho gayi hai — My chest has become blouse.

Saale ko kutte ki maut maarunga — Brother-in-law will die Tommy’s death.

Jabh bade baat kar rahe ho, toh beech mein toka nai karte — When elders get cosy, youngers don’t put their nosy.

Bagal mein chora aur shehar mein dhindhora — Boy under armpit and hypercity noise pollution .

Aata Maajhi Satakli — Now my head gear has gone to the sides .

English is a very funny language — Naa pine hain, naa apple; phir bhi pineapple .

Tumhaare kaan baj rahe hain — Your eardrums are playing drums .

Main tumhe chhate ka doodh yaad dila dooonga — I will make you remember Milk No. 6

10.Kismat Love Paisa Dilli or KLPD is a bad remake of same director. Why Bad, because he used Mallika Sherawat and Vivek Oberoi instead of Abhay Deol in previous version of Ek chalis ki last local.
The movie is so high on male chauvinism and sexist remarks that you might want to kick Sanjay Khanduri's balls. Ashutosh Rana and his team were another set of jokers. It was indeed a KLPD for the producers. In short :-
KLPD = (Ek chalis ki last local)-(Abhay Deol)-(Story)+(The nonsense script)/ Same director

9.Players - Why would you watch a bad desi version of Italian job topped by industries biggest duds like Abhishek Bachhan, Bobby Deol and Sikander Kher. The movie was further ruined by long legs of insipid female cast of Sonam Kapoor and Bipasha Basu. I guess the starring was enough to make it the biggest dud. But you never know .
Abbas-Mastan the white Siamese twin like directors were definitely the ones who never played a game. Dont forget Omi doing the same skit of 3 idiots.

8.Son of Sardar - You need to watch this movie to learn one thing, just passing humor on Sardar will not make a great movie. Ajay Devgan again using slapstick comedy genre to please the audiences but we have heard all the jokes in our childhood.
Sanjay Dutt should retire now badly, he is no more suited to do comic roles. The initials is clear enough for someone to understand - S.O.S

7.Teri Meri Kahaani - He hehe eehe Kunal Kohli at his best. A bad history lesson by baddest actress Priyanka Chopra. She should fire her wardrobe consultant if she has any, same kind of dress irrespective of movie.
Then we have body double of  King Khan in cheap costume. A bad Korean rip-off. Thrice upon a bad luck.Whoever went to Teri Meri Kahani is a gullible person and definitely a Naive cine-goer.Teri Meri Kahaani is a COPY of Movie Three Times. Kunal Kohli has always been a CHOR as his creations are copy lifted. Be it Mujhse Dosti Karoge (The Truth About Cats and Dogs), Hum Tum (When Harry Met Sally), Fanaa (Eye of the Needle) or Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic (Mary Poppins, Nanny McPhee).

6.Ekk Deewana Tha - Javed Akhtar with such a bad screenplay and AR Rahman with such a novice music could not help the born to be dead movie.
Prateik Babbar is so bad actor that his linage looks doubtful. The director from Kerala making a movie in Hindi and sticking to his older original is another failed idea. He will test your threshold by showing ugly faces of Babbar and Miss Jackson. arrggghhhh.

5.Tezz - Priyadarshan is recently flanked by making bad copy of all good movies like Unstoppable. The story was so loose that a train could pass through its tunnel. Zayed Khan was more of a jumping jack while Anil kapoor hasnot come out of his slumdog days.
Ajay Devgan err Devgn needs a better director be it comedy or action thriller. Tezz was none of them. Even Priyadarshan's lucky mascot Mohanlal lost its pace with this slow (all you know) movie.

4.Khiladi786- Himesh Reshamiya and Akshay Kumar along with Asin is not a good combination. The Khiladi movies are known for thrillers however this one is a bad humor gone real bad.
Akshay Kumar is so high on wacky humor and over the top entertainers that he makes a joker out of himself. Did you get the joke?

3.Dangerous Ishhq- Vikram Bhatt can win an academy for the worst movies every year, and this one is the cherry. The so called comeback of Karishma Kapoor with bad model looking heroes who simply cannnot deliver an act. On top of it we have Bhatt's formula of Punarjanm and reincarnation and other ghostly elements.
A terrible film and the worst in Kapoor's filmi career. What a comeback.

2.Joker (2012 film) -It should have been the Number#1, but we still have the best left. Joker is Shirish Kunder or Kunder is Joker is a tough question. This movie is not the worst of all bollywood releases put together , but bigger than that. And you have a dancing alien and ensemble cast of Tees Maar Khan.

Akki could do nothing better than showing his dental stacks while being a scientist from Nasa. Can you digest ? I know we all puked inside the movie hall.
 "Don’t fly my jokes.."

1. Aiyaa- When Anurag Kashyap is the producer you expect a bizarre  quirky movie but with the art in it. Well, he failed this time. Right from the name of the movie to the lead protagonist - Rani , it was her kind of comeback , where she did a sleazy smell sucking bitchy role.
The movie was so high of shit (read smelly) that you will close your nose and might dive to the nearest gutter for better airs. Save yourself.

Student of the Year - Somewhere in Fantasy universe

I just want to ask one question to Karan Johar - Did you ever go to a real school ever , even while shooting ?
Because I have not seen school boys driving expensive cars at the vulnerable age of 17 years and wearing  designer dresses leave apart school dress.
I have never seen barring few sporting beard and sexy hairstyles. All the good especially top class schools be it Doon school, Mayo,Scindhia, Lawrence, Sherwood,Welham's, Mussourie International, Sacred Heart, DPS, DAV, St Pauls, anyone for that matter are disciplined and have a good fleet of teachers. Dean is a important body not a gay caricature and then there are other important teachers like Head of departments, Principal etc.
And no college is so clean leave alone the canteen.
St Teresa school never looked to me like a convent co-educational institution rather it looked like Air Crew training Institute.
There are not just one sports teacher/faculty in entire school of the stature shown in the movie.
The main contest looks so stupid that for winning STUDENT OF THE YEAR, You need to win a treasure hunt and Prom Dance. We are still in Indian schools and Prom events are not so out of fantasy. The Guys are all good or Rich. And all Rich people have broken families. Huh...
I cannot imagine a 17 year old girl in Bikini looking Hot and seducing a guy who is all muscle. When did boys of 17 years old use dumbbells to tone their muscles like Stallone. What age did you start shaving?
Do you ever know a student who prepares for a swimming/Running/Cycling competition by going into a gym and running on treadmill.
I haven't even seen a uni-sexual competition . And lets not talk about such a competition its like banging your own head on a brick wall where dogs donot lift their legs to pee.
One thing is sure that  Karan Johar is definitely not the director of the year. Copying three vintage songs and utilizing the fruits is not always a good idea with 4 newcomers.
The only cool and hip thing was casting Alia Bhatt, She is cute , innocent, lovely and easy to eyes. Onlly thing that ruined is her character.
I would have loved this movie if and only if there would be statuary disclaimer like :-  "This is a work of Fantasy fiction. Characters, places and incidents are products of the author’s imagination and no way it can be related remotely to any resemblance to actual schools, events or locales or persons, living or dead.."

HHHe.llo…
Hello…
I.. am.. hunter..

I am a hunter and
She want to see my gun
When i pull it out by the
Women start to run
I am a hunter and
She want to see my gun
When I pull it out by the
Women start to run

She beg with me to see it
She beg with me to show it
But when I reveal it
She want to run 'n hide

Put on your hunting clothes
Le' we go and hunt
Please don’t be embarrassed
You could touch it if you want
All them young one around here
Ask them about me
I am the baddest gunman
That th'y ever see

हम है शिकारी सिकारी सिकारी

....... ....
टन टन  टन टन  टन टन  टन टन  ...
पहली गोली निकले
Automatic टन टन

With one gun in my hand and
The next one around my waist
If you see this young girl
With da rude look on she face
I say as a hunter
I must be brave and strong
She say that she find
That my gun extremely long

हम है शिकारी सिकारी सिकारी ....
पाकेट में लम्बी gun
धाएं से जो छूटे
तन मन हुए मगन …

This girl harasses me
She won’t leave me alone
But that kinda behavior
I really can’t condone

है बहुत भोकाली
ना कभी हो ख़ाली (Hello..)
है बहुत भोकाली
ना कभी हो ख़ाली

She says that she’s sorry
She just want to have fun
Then she asks me kindly
If she can hold my gun

दूर तक है famous
कर दे सब के बेबस

उसको मिलता दर्शन
जिसके मन में है लगन

लागी   लगन  लागी   लगन  लागी   लगन  ........

Re-imaging Spidey - The Amazing Spider-man

The houseful theaters prove that Spiderman's franchise is way bigger than its movies. It does matter who is the new amazing Spiderman, as long as there is more of Spidey than lame Peter Parker. This is fourth sequel which has more of dark Spider-man and his journey finding himself (unknowingly).
The first half of movie is a wasted effort to let us know again how Mr Parker was bitten by a spider in a lab and from a timid school boy he turned into a street fighter and designed a costume to finally become a super hero Spider-man.
This was so boring journey to re-visit more humanly spidey , even the web shooters were artificial and Webb didn't draw the hero muscular, taking his vice from Ultimate Spider-man. Webb even made the villain little human and comparing  Dr. Curt Connors / The Lizard with Godzilla will a similar mistake to that of comparing an ant to an elephant.

Andrew Garfield was honest as a cute next door school boy however less convincing as a superhero and this time there were no great powers hence no great responsibility. but focused on  secrets: the ones we keep... and the ones that are kept from us. A secret formula to grow limbs and mutants. We had so many mutant before and it was also surprising to know that the antidote was made before the poison. The movie lacks charisma of a superhero marvel. Neither the Hero nor the Antagonist was big enough to carry the sequel.
We have seen everything before. The promise of turning this one a 3D was another failure. You might see less of graphical heights and more of acting prowess of Garfield. While Sam Raimi was more into super sets and better action, Webb drilled down to emotional aspect of a super-hero. Beware Kids may not like this !!!
Mary-Jane Watson was replaced by old timer and more punk smart Gwen Stacy. This too blonde  actress was a weak link and Emma Stone had some mixed performance. Rhys Ifans was quite convincing than other casts in the movie. Irrfan had better screen presence than Anil Kapoor in Mission -impossible but he never bragged about it and always confessed it as a smaller role. However he might need to put more expression and eyes while delivering in English.
Marc Webb is saved by  the franchise'........

Gangs of वासेपुर - An Epic Saga of Revenge

Violence and revenge are weak words when compared to Gangs of Wasseypur. Wasseypur is a part of current town, Dhanbad in Bihar where this saga of revenge unfolds through the generations. Anurag Kashyap has done research on smallest narration and made this epic closest to reality Bollywood has ever made. The story is loosely based on real incidents but if you consider the flow of events, the way it unfolds, it is bound to become a cult. The silver screen cannot be real than this.
Anurag Kashyap After DevD, Gulal and Black Friday has done all the peers proud by GoW. The story narrated by Piyush mishra was an excellent choice. From Train Robberies to Coal mafias, to Fish market, to land sharks to Scrap kingpins, the small hamlet has evolved into a great town along with the rivalries. The growth was linear and Dons were not shown like king-size. They were real, with real fights and the one with grows with time. They even had their share of Libidos and feudal cultural drops. Right from Kutta (country guns) to Beef market, so surreal and raw that one could turn their stomach out. The movie set the expectations right after first 5 second, of how much blood and gore was well below what you have dreamed.

The ensemble cast and its choice was the key to success of this movie. Even the not so important casts were detailed much. The bang was so stereophonic it could give one hell of goosebumps. Movie starts with crimson burned train robberies and run out of wasseypur.  Jaideep Ahlawat's coal fight was one of the best directed fist-fight, while Pitush mishra self punishment was something unheard of. The Birth of Protagonist Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpayee) , still hard to digest. Where the mother dies due to heavy bleeding but the father is informed about a beautiful son she gave before loosing herself on life. Soon the Muslim Mahabharat was set to pace not limping through the ages but was galloped by a nice and crisp narration by Mishra. The rise of coal-mining and dabangg leaders were smooth and so was the introduction of Ramadhir singh (Played by Tigmanshu Dhulia - famed Director of Paan singh Tomar, Haasil and Saheb biwi aur Gangster).
The movie paced itself with orphan Sardar Khan's marriage and his quest for the revenge of his father's death. Teri Kah ke loonga song was the key to rise to another level, beautifully sung by Sneha (Music director) and Amit trivedi (DevD). This song was the cog-wheel of the movie, throughout.
Here comes the gags and humor plastered through hard facts of life, where a leader behaves differently inside his house and inside a brothel. Enters Richa Chadda (Oye Lucky lucky Oye !) as Najma Khatoon. She was given the role of a tigress , sending her man to please himself by another whore incase he is cocky. Although she doesn't hail from Bihar but the way she spoke Bhojpuri with so earthiness that she walks away with the cherry on the cake.
While Manoj Bajpayee can beat any actor when it comes to lecherous ways, his smile on the bare backs of Reemma Sen while sucking on Nalli Ghost Mutton was lecherous at its zenith best . The camera and Anurag was so perfect in providing small details of then Bihar. Rustic and Rustic. Where a Man is a 'Mard' when he woos other women. This was the right backdrop of one the best song ever in Bollywood, sung marvelously by Rekha Jha and Khushboo - O Womaniya. I must admit that Sneha used her talent to compose the song from the people who has good diction of the land and recording it a way that other music directors need to break the mold. This is it, This is real cinema. This is Cinema.
The songs  and their timing was near perfect and so engrossed that a person might miss the wordings. The local flavor is so enriched that people from other part of India might look for sub-titles. But the time has come to leave Punjab and its Butter masala flavor and reach out to new directors from Eastern part. There was a time in Bollywood where you have to have a Punjabi song to cater to Diaspora Indian by all the directors from the region, be it Chopras, Kapoors, Anand or Singhs.... The cliche is cut here and a Niche is set.

There was a time when Anurag Kashyap could not show a bullet shot on screen (Black Friday) due to financial constraint but in GOW he went over the budget five times. you can feel the bullet inside your head with blood sporting-out, oozing and dwindling all the way. The growth is not only shown in terms of budget but also a new pattern , where you've  invested in actors and research'd story. Every department Camera, Screenplay, music, Lyrics, or cinematography is well rehearsed and close to the story of the land. You will not find Hindi glossy songs or dance out of the swoosh of hand . Even the "item boy" played brilliantly by Yashpal Sharma is close to the earth. Launda-Dance was all the new thing, never entertained on silver screen. This was the show of brilliance, where Sharma is singing Lata Mangeshkar the way a Bihari sings.

Tigmanshu Dhulia was so subtle and in the skin of the character that real Ramadhir might take a lesson from him. His casting was so perfect and on the terms with story. No character was built supersize.
The theater was burnt by Bajpayee and further destroyed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. He was the Al Pacino of this Bhojpuri 'The'Godfather. Nawazuddin was so intense with his eyes that glares were seen despite it was covered by dark aviator sunglasses. His smile when the Hunter song was played and the police interrogation was not to be missed. The black skin and lips were purposely brazen to support Chillam (Charas) smoking. The unintentional revenge in Varanasi was also best directed scene in the flick, the way Pacino shot the polce chief inside the Italian restaurant. The movie was paced on the path set by Francis Ford Coppola, Sergio Leone and of course Quentin Tarantino.
Kids cleaning train's toilet, Beef market and butchers, the living quarters of muslim, Muharram festive, and chinaware for a non hindu was so well taken care, it was so close to life. RGV's way of keeping your supporting cast as real as it could was good. The Jail scene and Manish Tippoo's Bhoos came to conviction. This is the movie where bombs are thrown but not blasted until thrown again, Butcher asking for automatic Guns to beat Atom Bombs, and beating your nemesis by footwear. These small details will hurt you so hard that you will smile and might even laugh and clap.

Pankaj Tripathi was another cast which was full of inner venom and potential , as Querashi. Vipin Sharma  and Jameel Khan also had good share of screen presence as side kicks and they were well portrayed. Huma Qureshi was the sex-appeal of movie came at the end of first part and Rajeev Ravi didnt miss the opportunity to showcase her in the best Ray-bans proposing Amitabh. The scene between Nawazuddin and Huma is another real incident driven, where libidos are shown etiquette.
The master punch was the end of movie, end of Sardar khan, dragged to the Flawlessness with holes in the head and a pistol in the hand , when Manoj Tiwari blurtted the anthem "Jiyo ho" with such a adrenaline energy that you remain glued to your seat.
Sublime Excellence.

A rare feat. 5/5
Ekdum Bhokali.

Rogue Department

'Rogue filmmaking'- From inside the tea cups and outside of the nostrils, getting tossed as Carrom on the broad or plunging camera across the beach as a ball, requires RGV's creativity although it was a complete distraction in some sequences But But you cannot ignore the creativity and the challenges put through .  For some this is a real pleasure to watch such a challenging medium of communication where the camera is always on the roll. The free styling camera may give a nauseousness awareness sometimes and sometimes may deliver as a punch across your face. You will wonder on the cinematic peak of the visual language where RGV repeatedly and mercilessly destroys all conventions of cute storytelling and aims for the jugular vein. As breaking rules is what RGV stands for. And, I know he will never stop challenging the regulars and second-handers.

Department has a much  better gripping story line than the recent Bollywood like Kahani, Agent Vinod, Houseful2 ,Ishqzaade, Agneepath etc. Although not a nice experiment with new bizzarre camera angles, where RGV completely goes Rouge. There are scenes which might have worked good on a normal 50mm. There wee too many close crops. It was also nice to see a director of this stature using Canon5D and 7D for the shoots using multiple cameras at a time. A tight editing by Vinay Abhijit gave a new look to bollywood. it was previously tried in 'Not a love story' but came full on in department.

The story has a penchant of RGV where he excels. Power and fight for power. From the police department to the underworld to politicians , right from Satya, Shiva, Company,Sarkar, he has a tight control on the narratives. This time he has gone to fist fighting more than the gunshots, which ruined the whole concept of killing a gangster. If you wanted to kill someone why to throw punches and then take your pistol and shoot in the end, do it at the beginning itself. Like always said - "when you have to shoot , SHOOT."

The gun blazing scene at blind school shootout was not required and later converted in to fists was a lack. The scenes were little exaggerated but the masala was packed for titular pleasure. So was the unnecessary songs, esp the item number where Nathalia kaur was uncomfortably shaking the booty. and the whole dancing crowd vanished once the shots were fired. RGV should have kept the plot by no to item numbers, better female selection and a better music director (Bappi Lahiri, Dharam-Sandeep, Vikram Magi). Raunchy lyrics and a loud background score was another unnecessary. The female moll -Madhu Shalini was a complete waste and I wonder about the casting credibility of the director. Why he always fails in this department, all his heroines right from Urmilla, Nathalia, Antara, to Madhu has this round faces and sleazy tongues. Even Mrs Sanjay Dutt (in the movie) played by Lakshmi Manchu was given some loud words not those of a elite police class. The conversation between husband and wife was really uncalled and gave a chauvinistic classless feel. Although Lakshmi was better than Anjana Shukhani , who was another dumb doctor in this flick of RGV. It also shows that Lakshmi brings a better screen presence from her American television stints.

Like understood, RGV gives strong characters to his male protagonists. Right from BigB to Sanjay Dutt to Rana Duggubatti to Abhimanyu singh. Sanjay dutt with his sulken eyes was a perfect cast for an aging mature rouge police officer while Rana with his too straight face was another rock cut honest fresh cop.
Rana stands tall among Bachhan and Dutt, still he needs to bring more wrinkles on his face for a close crop 70mm silver screen. Amitabh was in sarkar's persona preaching Hindu epics and comparing himself with Gautam buddha. The portrayal of grey politician with blend of philosophy brought new vividness to this movie. The subtle screenplay to bring the tout thrill on the screen was amazingly good and the central theme of the movie. Vijay raaj was good as a local don, but Abhimanyu as DK was completely wasted as a BABY, and RGV failed to utilize the venomous eyes this time. Deepak Tijori with kohl eyes and a Hogan-ish mustache was a surprise but lost its factor over the time.

Nilesh Girkar had a good story and ended with a hope of Department 2.

RGV, Everybody wants you to bounce back, just make sure you have a better female selection and a better music director. The story was taut and thrilling. Not for front stalls and neither for multiplexes.

Bond gone Wrong - Agent Vinod

Money spoils everything, Hence proved. With over Rs100 crore of money  Agent Vinod went overboard with style and fashion. Sriram Raghvan was a good director, once you get money you loose the plot, and that's what he did. Disappointed.  Although a good movie but looking at his standards his worst. If you remember him in Johnny Gaddar which is one of the finest thriller in the history of Bollywood, you will have a much better expectation with Agent Vinod. But the price was paid when you got your actor as a producer.

The movie is good in its wit and humor and in patches along with its support casts. Sin city style casting which gave an impression of sloppy editing and camera angles but soon the movie went linear and with almost not so good story. The loopholes could not hold enough water for the movie and it fell flat on the ground. I can bet it will be another hit because the action sequence are far better and real than comical Salman Khan's movies. The film revolved like a Globetrotter where its easy to jump countries than changing shoes. The Agent went to Russia then Morrorco with just a clue  to decode 242 which in turn is just another Nuclear Bomb like any B grade movie. The impossible mission was accomplished by the help of a Pakistani spy with no mission at all. The female spy would simply fall for our desi agent and forget her agenda. After all there was no agenda of her than to seduce the silver screen. One good thing about this movie is that although it shows Pakistan's ISI chief assassinated by its own subordinate and supporting terrorism but it never bashed Pakistan's sentiments and kept it subtle.

Another  loose thing was not to end the movie at the right time and streching the end iin such an unconvincing way that shows Lashkar-e-tauiba as more efficient and proactive. Like always, Sriram, maintained its Homage to Charlie Chaplin, Mahendar Sandhu, Amar Chitra Katha, Amar Akbar Anthony, Vidya Mandir, and many other unnoticeables. The movie went from Afganistan to Russia to Morocco to  Latvia to Somalia to Karachi to New Delhi. You will wonder why Maryam Zakaria was packed in a sack in the middle of Kabul just to appear again in Karachi to invite Kareena for a cleavage competition in a routine dance of Dil Mufft ka. The song was unnecessary the same way Gulshan Grover was used, there was no mention of his role and  he vanished as soon as song ended. Ram Kapoor was good in a fat Russian drug mafia, however he hired an Indian bodyguard along with too many Russians, another small loophole. While Dhritiman Chatterjee and Adil Hussain were good in their character. It was Anshuman Singhas Jimmy who gave an impressive debut without any screenplay. Zakir Hussain was also good as side kick.Saif Ali khan was sleek and never looked like a suave Jamesbond neither a survivor like Bourne, nor a traveler like Tintin. He was just another Bollywood hero with all the skill set to fight his enemy, right from shooting with efficient aim, driving bikes, chasing girls and flying a helicopter.Kareena's character was a real spoilsport in this movie. She looked amazingly beautiful but too beautiful to do justice to a spy from Pakistan. You might wonder when does a country like pakistan has really grown out of its male chauvnism to allow such a beautiful spy.

Sriram Raghvan's screenplay was strong and good enough to keep up the pace, however it was not backed by good background score and music. The editing was good and had new pair of scissors in right hands. All I want to say one thing:- "मैं सिनेमा टाइमपास के लिए नहीं देखता, एन्जॉय करना है मुझे | टाइमपास के लिए फेसबुक है |"  (I dont watch movies for time-pass, i watch them so that I can enjoy. I have got facebook for time-pass)
